Mission Autonomy AI wins U.S. Navy award to improve passive sonar detection with cutting-edge technology.

Mission Autonomy AI (MAAI) has been awarded a contract by the U.S. Navy to improve passive sonar tracking with cutting-edge machine learning. MAAI builds autonomous systems and AI-driven decision making for defense.
Passive sonar is how the Navy listens for what is hiding underwater. The volume of acoustic data keeps growing. Today's automation still leaves too much of the work to the operator on watch.
Under the award, MAAI will apply its expertise and technology to enhance passive sonar systems, making them more capable and more reliable. The result is automation operators can trust. Less burden on the people who use it.
“Sonar operators don't need more alerts. They need alerts they can trust,” said Luke R. Trujillo, CTO and co-founder of Mission Autonomy AI, who serves as principal investigator. “We're applying cutting-edge machine learning to passive sonar so the system carries more of the load and the operator can focus on the decision.”
The award builds on MAAI's data fusion and autonomy work across the Department of War. That portfolio includes passive acoustic sensing, multi-sensor tracking, and multi-domain data fusion.
